One of the best adventures you can ever take is when you go with a motorcycle. This helps you to explore the surrounding. For instance, in the countryside, you will be to take notice of the areas – the plains, the mountains and green field. This you can’t really get when you are in a car. Need we even forget the chilling winds that get on your body when you ride?
But most motorcycles do not really satisfy this obsession for adventure as they tend to reach some concessions. These reasons could be economic, situational and pragmatic.
One of these concessions is with the tires. Although tires are about the most useful component of a motorcycle, without which a motorcycle can’t move, some decisions would not fly with it.
Most adventure tires get designed in a way that it supports street riding at 90-percent and off-road (unpaved roads mostly) 10-percent. The aftermath of this is that the tires tend to move better on street roads, which are paved roads, than on unpaved surfaces.
But what is an adventure without veering off the road?
The truth is that good adventure comes when we are able to break out of boundaries and limitations. That way, we would enjoy the journey.
If you are to ask an adventurist whether he likes the limiting of traction on dirt tracks and other unpaved roads, you will hear a possible “no” as an answer. Even you that will like to go on an adventure would not like it.
Mitas E-07 Review
Meanwhile, since the early part of the 20th century, 1933 to be precise, a company has been experimenting with a function-first approach to tires. This is similar to the same approach taken by tires manufacturer in Eastern Europe. The company, Mitas tire, based in the Czech Republic has been making quality tires since their inception.
Their latest offering called the E-07, is a 50/50 tubeless tire. While no tire could hold the claim as to the best in the market due to tires having different spheres of influence, the E-07 is one of the best tires available in the market for adventure bikers.
The Mitas E-07 features a V-shaped pattern that cuts across the side of the tires. Although the V-shape is visible, it is in an irregular form. The largely shaped pattern ironically fits on a narrow sized tire.
These largely shaped patterns make sure that you can still enjoy the benefit of using centre-strip which most adventure motorcycle carries. This means you can use it perfectly on the road.
The pattern is large and irregular makes water, rocks and mud to not hold on to the edge of the blocks on the tire. This helps the tire to hold on past dirt road. A centre-strip tire would sink in that kind of situation.
If you have a bigger high bike, you can go for the E-07+ tire which is a modified version of the E-07.
On The Road
The Mitas E-07 was tested to the limit on paved tracks which include racetracks, freeways and wet surfaces.
Although the Mitas, E-07 was not built for the race track as most racing bikes tire tend to be built in the region of 80-20 or even 90-10, the Mitas E-10 did excellent works on the race track. It challenged tires built for race tracks, keeping the pace with them.
For a tire not meant to be a racing tire, it is impressive that it could catch up with tires built for racing. However, a little not of warning here, DO NOT TAKE THE MITAS E-07 AS A RACING TIRE.
On Asphalt and Freeway
On asphalt, the E-07 also excel that it could go on the road at a noble pace while providing the needed traction and grip.
While some tires will make annoying sounds while riding, the Mitas E-07 hardly makes noise.
Since corners are part of freeways especially countryside roads, you will want to know how the E-07 performed when the bike is at sharp corners.
Well, the tires performed well while the speed is moderate but if you want to go with the speed of a racing biker – more than 190km per hour – this MITAS E-07 review did not advise you to do that.
On Wet Surfaces
The Mitas E-07 performed considerably well on wet surfaces that it can stand up to its competition. This means on a rainy day you can take off with the E-07 as your bike’s tire and not worry about anything.
On Unpaved Roads
This is the area where the E-07 has an upper hand.
Whether you decide to take the bike on a ten-thousand kilometres trip of adventure on an unpaved road, the E-07 tires will make you not regret your choice.
From 1500 km of adventure in the Cascade Mountain ranges to 1000 km of riding through dirt roads in Africa, the Mitas E-07 came out unscathed and did not stick in the muddy road.
After thousands of kilometres, the Mitas E-07 looks fresh. Something most tires would not do.
It is easy to forget the Mitas E-07 history. But Mitas has always stood for durability and they did not disappoint in the E-07.
When compared to street tires that tout durability as their strength, you will see that the Mitas E-07 matched them – pound to a pound.
